Andromeda Training has just launched Visual Finance, an iPad App that makes it easy for anyone to quickly evaluate the financial health of a company without having to pore through hard-to-understand financial charts and columns of numbers.

Selected Features

  • Shows the income statement and balance sheet in a single view making it easier to see the relationships between all of the financial information
  • View up to 30 years of financial data for each company
  • Tap to instantly view a company’s key financial ratios
  • A glossary that provides definitions about each item
  • Upgrade for access to 450+ companies, including most of the Fortune 500®. Free version comes with 12 companies.

Visual Finance is based on the financial visualization methodology we’ve been using since 1996 in our Income/Outcome® business simulation workshops to train employees in business acumen at hundreds of top-ranked companies worldwide. Those of you who’ve attended one of our workshops know what we mean when we say that Visual Finance makes finance easy and intuitive.

I downloaded the new app to my iPad today. It looks great but I would like some ideas as to how I can use it other than showing it to prospective Income-Outcome workshop customers.

Hi Tom. Glad you like it. We are still working on integrating the app into the classroom. Here are some ideas for different audiences:
Everyone in the Company Have teams look at the company over the past 10 years, identify the major changes in the company (e.g. an acquisition) and the impact. How long was the impact visible? Have teams look at the company's vision statement, or budget for the next year, discussion about how it will unfold on the Company Board.
Sales People: Each team pulls up 3 or 4 clients. As a team, use the company board to identify the strengths and weaknesses for each client. Check major competitors for the client: do they have similar or different situation.
Everyone in the CompanyHave each team bring up Motors Liquidation Company (the old GM) and see what story they can create.

I hope other people will add their own ideas.

BTW, you do not need to have one iPad per team. You can get the connector for iPad to projector and have a group discussion instead of team discussion.

You might even get some white paper tape to cover up the name of the company being discussed, see if the group can figure it out.

Here are some story companies:
Liquidation Motors (old GM) is a fantastic 'horror story', I think groups will like it. See when the group begins to detect something is not right.
Apple is a favourite story company for me. What are 3 things everyone knows about Apple? 1) they are profitable. 2) they have tons of cash (look at the investments in their fixed assets to see just how many tons they have, and 3) they tend to develop everything themselves (so there is no goodwill).
Google is similar to Apple, but they are not a manufacturing company (inventories)and they do acquire other companies (goodwill).

Maybe we should start a thread of story companies... any takers?

Wonderful application!
I'll inform Income Outcome participants about this IPad app. It would be very useful for people who participate IO simulation to review the company board and real examples of Companies' Balance Sheet and Income Statement! It's very important can visualize all financial and economic data at the same time.

Great tool for exploring a fresh way of seeing finance. Adding or uploading a user's company data would be interesting. Curious if social media tools would even be worth exploring - critique my company?
