Teaching a Business Literacy Workshop to Entrepreneurs in the Bahamas

Published Date
Andromeda Simulations International recently partnered with the Centre for Training and Innovation to run a business literacy workshop on Eleuthera, offering the Income|Outcome experience to participants at no cost.
The Participants
The workshop welcomed recent graduates of the University of the West Indies, many with BAs in hospitality management, from across the Caribbean—including Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, and Nevis. These aspiring hospitality professionals are completing a 12-week internship, aiming to build successful careers in the industry and, one day, launch their own businesses. Local Eleuthera residents also joined, including Lionel Fernander, owner of the Sunset Inn restaurant.
And here is the group, from the article in The Eleutheran after the event.

Mr. Fernander (on the right) was part of the winning team, sharing invaluable insights with fellow participants. His advice highlighted key elements young entrepreneurs need to succeed, such as understanding what banks expect from borrowers—including financial statements, projections, business plans, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
Engaging and Challenging Learning
Throughout the workshop, students actively challenged each other’s decisions and collaborated to apply financial concepts to real-world scenarios. Many participants linked the learning back to their academic studies, finding connections between the Income|Outcome simulation and other parts of their hospitality curriculum, such as operations management, marketing, and financial planning.
